House At The End Of The Line
Review By Dave Knowles
The House at the end of the line, which was part of The Under The Floorboards Project. The House At The End Of The Line wwa performed at the Ballarat Exchange from 16th – 20th Oct.
This show was written & directed by talented local Tracy Bourne. This show was excellent in the way Tracy brought the people of Reid’s Guest house residents live to the stage.
Normally in the Mining exchange the acoustics are not the best, but for this production it wasn’t a problem. The performance & audience area were cut of off from the rest of the building, which made the acoustics much better. The lighting of this production was basic lighting for the scenes in Reids & darker for the street & nightclub scenes. The lighting also helped show the the different elements of the show in the scenes.
The set was brilliant in the way that it didn’t have to change that often & 3 cubby holes in the Mining Exchange were used. The pace of the show helped by quick change by the actors & backstage crew. The set done by Gus Powers (the master of set designers).
There was 6 actors & 5 of them played multiple roles. I found this not a problem & could tell who the actor was playing. The only actor who had only 1 was Thomas banks who has a disability played Gabriel who also has disability. It was great to see an actor with disability play a character with a disability in the local productions.
Actors such as Verity Higgins, Rose Bray, Andreas Litras, Lachlan Martin, Michael Treloar, Kate Suter brought the characters alive. Kate Suter sang & what a beautiful voice she as.
The play was entertaining, had its humorous parts but also had its sad parts to it. Well done to everyone involve with this production & Tracy please bring us another smashing production soon.
