What is Ballarat Arts Alive?

BAA is a flexible forum for discussion, development and action around arts based in
Ballarat and surrounds.

More about us on the About page.

What have we achieved?

This dynamic group has achieved all this in less than a year, working through lively
subcommittees (join up when you can…)

  • ArtsAtlas. Working with LEAP / Vic Health funding and support we are close to publishing a website, ArtsAtlas. This will improve networking and connectivity between artists, arts organisations and the community. It will promote arts activities, events, organisations, opportunities and resources across the Central Highlands and strengthen the arts sector through contribution of information from arts practitioners, venues, event managers, funding bodies etc, as well as commissioned projects linked to the website.
  • Art Sparks. Regular bi-monthly gatherings for the creative community of Ballarat and surrounds, featuring local artists, venues and artforms. In these casual and inviting settings artists meet to share and discuss their practices, inspirations and challenges.
  • Incorporation. Applied for and will be granted soon. This will enable BAA to receive and administer grants and other funding.
  • Lobbying. A major part of BAA’s role is to liaise with and lobby local government in particular for the benefit of the arts of this region.
  • Feasibility Study. BAA is currently seeking funding for a two-pronged process: Interview (Members) and Presentation (Partners). The first will relate solely to BAA membership and the second to the development and expansion of BAA through sustainable and diverse partnerships.
  • Membership Study. Designed to generate ideas and information and will be a specific and targeted survey based on human contact. It will be specifically tailored to the members as artists with a series of straightforward questions.
    • These questions will be:
      • What the members do;
      • How they do it;
      • What they need/want to do it better;
      • How they can feed back into assisting other BAA members and their collective aims;
      • How can BAA reach and service its local community.
  • Physical Spaces. BAA now plans to investigate needs for spaces for performance, exhibitions, meetings etc.
